However, for family members it can be concerning to see noticeable personality changes and it is beneficial to have the extra support of an agency to not only provide needed care, but to support caregivers. Caregiving can take it's toll, so make sure to include free time for your personal well-being. We always recommend letting the physician know if agitation continues to increase, it could be a symptom of other medical issues that need to be addressed. Thank you for your comment! But there is another problem that is getting totally ignored: verbally and emotionally abusive elders that make it impossible to be around to help them. We're not talking about people with senility or dementia, but elderly people who are oriented and know full well what they are doing. There is no place for their kids to go to get help and support. This is definitely a serious problem – so sad….

I think one of best ways we can take care of the elderly is by hiring reliable caregivers. I recommend that everyone use an agency that offers ClearCare point-of-care software. We use this with our grandfather, and it's given us such peace of mind. We can check on what's going on by logging onto ClearCare's website and getting real-time updates on his meals, medications, and other essential tasks. We are also alerted if the caregiver doesn't arrive at his house on time. Hopefully more families will check out this software and elder abuse will decrease.
